By the end of this introductory course, the students will be able to understand the intricacies of the crime of genocide, and will be able to apply this knowledge to identify this crime.
Course Syllabus
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the international crime of genocide. This course will cover:
- The legal origins of the crime of genocide,
- The components and elements of the crime per the Genocide Convention of 1949, and
- How international legal interpretations have moulded this crime
By the end of this introductory course, the students will be able to understand the intricacies of the crime of genocide, and will be able to apply this knowledge to identify this crime.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
The course will employ scholarly readings, international and domestic case law as well as other written sources which will be provided prior to class to ensure student preparation. The course will be an online lecture and will be followed by a practical application
