COURSE DESCRIPTION
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to International Human Rights Law, associated treaties such as the Conventions against Torture, the African/ European/ Inter American Conventions of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. This course will provide a comparative analysis of these treaties, the inherent differences of human rights concepts.
COURSE SYLLABUS
- Notions of international human rights law, such as
- Universality and
- Non-discrimination.
- The different categories of rights.
- The typical features of international human rights law compared to other branches of public international law.
- International Human Rights Treaties
- Conventions against Torture,
- The African/ European/ Inter American Conventions of Human Rights,
- The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and
- The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS
The course will employ scholarly readings, international and domestic case law as well as other written sources which will be provided prior to class to ensure student preparation. The course will be an online lecture and will be followed by a practical application
